Game Day Notes: The 'Phish Got Squished

I was going to do a game day diary like I typically do. Unfortunately, I'm a dumbass, and deleted my notes from the Texans' 30-10 season opening win over Miami. And since I have no time desire to re-watch a boring game (aside from a 5 minute Miami meltdown), here's a quick look at what I noticed.

The Run D Sucked

Miami had a lot of success running early. Once the game got out of hand, they abandoned it. The Jaguars aren't the kind of team who'll quit the ground game so quickly. This area must improve next week.

The Running Game Sucked

Arian Foster averaged 3 yards a carry. Ben Tate? 1.2. That's terrible, even against a good front seven like Miami. You wonder how much of this had to do with the right side of the O-Line, but no one really looked good in the trenches yesterday. (Especially left guard Wade Smith).

Everything Else Was Gravy

And it all started when Miami collectively shit its pants with 5-6 minutes left in the first half. Turnovers. Turnovers. And more turnovers.

Three Stars

JJ Watt - Went beast mode. 3 Tipped passes (2 of which were picked off) and had 1.5 sacks despite NOT PLAYING A FUCKING DOWN ALL PRESEASON. Yeah. Did I mention it's only his second year?

Andre Johnson - Looked like the #80 of old. He had 8 catches for 119 yards and a TD - which featured a picture fucking perfect sideline catch. We all know how good he is...the only question is his health.

Matt Schaub - He looked good without any support from the run game. 20-31 for 266 yards and a TD. Miami's secondary isn't any good, but it was nice to see Schaub be effective.

Diaries will be back next Monday.
